Pull a President Bush and duck. Twice if you have to. Seriously though, he shouldn't throw stuff at you regardless of how angry he is. You both should look at counselling.

For starters, DUCK! Assuming this married couple actually loves one another and just had a bad moment, retaliation is probably not the most beneficial route. Most people will do things that surprise others (and themselves) when angry and provoked. I've had everything from chairs to oranges thrown at me by an (otherwise) wonderful man. LOL What I figured out is that sometimes women throw things at men first without even knowing it! Verbal things that would not impact another woman the way the hurt a man, so we don't even think about it. The genders just think so differently. These kinds of things sometimes provoke even the gentlest man to retailate, and we're left going "What in the hell got into HIM?" He's probably not truely abusive even though this kind of hurting one another is never ok. Best to give it a chance by calming down and talking rationally later.

If the shoe was thrown with the Muslim intent of doing deep insult, then the woman should cut off his beard when he's sleeping. (Kidding. If a Muslim woman did that, wouldn't her husband kind of have to stay home until the beard grew back?) If the shoe was thrown by an American man at an American woman, then all bets are off. Shred his shoes, cut holes in the soles. Oh a good thing to do: take the butt seam out of every pair of his trousers. I DO like that.... hahaha.
