  • This is probably the most complicated ethical debate out there for me... what I think ethically, and what I think practically are so different. It hurts my head to try and give you an answer!! Ethically, I am not against assisted suicide. I have a lot of empathy for the patients and the families of patients who may ask for help; and I hate the idea of somebody going to prison for assisting a family member do something they desperately wanted. In practice though - I just can't see how it could be implemented safely without people having assisted suicide under pressure/not in sound mind/for more trivial cases etc. This is almost a question of protection on some levels, but not everybody's rights, needs or desires can be protected at the same time. Tough one!!
  • Of course, the right to live goes hand in hand with the right to die.
