Baptism is a symbol of your belief in Jesus Christ like a ring is a symbol of marriage. Baptism by immersion symbolizes being buried with Jesus Christ and rising again to a new life.

If one believes all the bible says and believes that Christ has not changed His mind since, according to Acts 2:38-41 and Mark 10:38 and 39, one must be baptised as Christ was to be eligable to enter God's kingdom, should God judge one to be worthy of it after their mortal life is over. Much like the sacrifces of the law of moses, it (baptism by imersion) is representative of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, and the end of our old life, and the beginning of a new life in Christ (Colossians 2:12). And like the sacrifices of old, even though the act of baptism is just symbolic (for God forgives sins) it is required to qualify for forgiveness, much as without the sin offereing it was not granted in Moses's time. However I'm sure many will disagree and interpret differently, so I hope no-one gets offended due to different beliefs:)
