Question

Help answer this question below.

Today I saw a white swastika with a yellow tassel hanging from the bottom of it decorating someone's rearview mirror. Ironically the driver was a young asian girl. Was this item a sign of Nazi support or does it have a different meaning?

    G'day MP1116,

    Thank you for your question.

It is unlikely to be a symbol of Nazi support in those circumstances. The Swastika is a symbol dating back to the Neolithic. It is a widely used symbol in religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The Falun Gong or Falun Dafa in China use it. It has been found on the helmets of ancient Greek soldiers.

The Nazis adopted it for their perverted cause in the 1920s. The Nazi version was black on a red and white background. They adopted it because it was seen as an Aryan symbol associated with India.

The driver of the car associated it with its longstanding Asian religious meaning not the Nazi version.

I have attached sources for your reference.

    Regards

By Asian do you mean 'from India' perhaps. The symbol does pre-date the Nazis and can be found in India in sacred places.

When I visited Asian temples, they were all over the place. This is an ancient Buddhist symbol. It points in the other direction. This Buddhist symbol has no connection to the Nazi party.

It was originally a religious symbol meaning peace. Hitler just took it and used it for the nazis.

It depends, A "right-facing" Swastika in a decorative Hindu form to.

It is a widely-used sacred symbol in Dharmic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism).

I reckon that may explain it.

The Swastika was originally called the Bent Cross. It's the same as the Swastika. It is ironically a positive symbol. Many American Indian tribes used it. Of course they renounced it thanks to all that Nazi nonsense. It's just a positive universal symbol that was lost thank to Adolf and his "eccentricities."

    Edit:
Of course, some girl who thinks a swastika on her car won't raise the slightest eyebrow is a little confused.

In actuality a swastika is a religious symbol that has been tainted by the Nazi party.

It may not have been her car or she may not realise the meaning. It could also be that she was doing it as a way of sticking her tongue out and ridiculing the Nazi movement and thereby lessening the level of trauma associated with it.

The Swastika was used for many different things, including religions, before Hitler decided to snatch it up, screw with the colors, and flip it over to use for his perverted vision of a perfect world. I'm guessing that this girl had it up for religious purposes.

Well, if you're sure it was the swastika, then it definitely means Nazi. Very strange, I am confused. I mean, it is possible that she was a Nazi sympathizer, because you know how Japan (not saying she was Japanese) allied with Germany during WWII. It's just a notion, but maybe I'm on the right track.
