  • Some dogs do seem to. But who knows what they hear? A dog's auditory response to frequency is much wider than ours. Does this mean they hear individual notes as being much closer together than we do? If that is the case, then music would sound very strange to them.
  • Well, my dog used to fall asleep during heavy metal songs, but would start barking at the drums when I played Kitaro. Poor thing.
  • They are very sensitive to their enviorment so I would say a resounding yes. There is music that has made for this very purpose. As a side note several years there was a British study [I believe} that found milk cows gave more milk while listening to Andy Williams sing Moon River. True - can't say the findings were correct but that is the information released. +5
  • Sheepdogs do.
  • In my experience there are many animals that respond favorably to music, and sometimes NOT SO FAVORABLY TOO! Often, if I'm playing the piano, I'll turn around to find the dogs and cats sitting or laying behind me, as if listening, the parrots love it and often my CAG will join in with harmony of her own doing. I've seen horses relax in the stable to country, classical and even soft rock music, cows too! Then, on the other side of the coin, one of the Police horses under my care became so upset one Earth Day in San Diego, because there were several bands set up playing full tilt on the grounds above where the Police Horse Stable was located, I had to call the Vet, because I was afraid he was going to injure himself. He was sweat covered up to the point of foam all over his body, and racing way too fast in his small paddock. He had to have a sedative in order to get him under control. AB challenges in adding photos...even though these are photos I've successfully added to other posts on AB....WHEN will the AB problems be solved...it didn't used to be like this! Some times dogs seem to enjoy some music, and sometimes they don't, usually howling because it probably bothers their hearing.
  • My shetland sheepdog runs to the tv to howl at the opening theme to CBS Sunday Morning.
  • Yes some appear to, especially little dogs. some learn to "play" the piano and "sing" to it! Their are certain songs dogs like or dislike. My dog howls at only 1 song that I listen to by Katy Perry. It's almost as she sings in rythme to it although faster. So I think they can hear the notes, just more bunched together.
  • hard to tell sometimes they do and sometimes they just lie there, thanks+5.
  • Yes - and my pup even seems to distinguish between different artists - he likes some (smiles, tail wags) and not others (gruffs).
  • Yes they do. I had one dog that when he was a puppy he liked Country music. If there was a song that he liked he would howl to the song.
