Despite its nuanced arguments about sexual orientation and the right of all people to be free from violence, the Roman Catholic Church remains a committed foe of LGBT rights and has adopted an aggressive strategy to oppose the political enfranchisement of the LGBT community. And right-wing evangelical organizations are among the most zealous in their oppression of the LGBT community. Same-sex orientation is seen as a fundamental evil within American society, leading these groups to demonize those who campaign fro LGBT rights, distort modern understandings of sexual orientation and promote the “conversation” of gay people to a straight orientation. These are the very congregations that have seen their membership rosters explode as they embrace a “business” approach to church growth. Evangelical mega-churches are vast communities that employ large staffs, develop sophisticated marketing campaigns and employ high-tech strategies to retain their “consumers.” While they admire business models and celebrate wealth as a reward from God, right-wing churches are in direct opposition to the corporate culture they strive to emulate when it comes to LGBT rights.

My continuing employment with company A should be based solely on how well I sell or make their product. The fact that I’m LGTB should not enter in to the equation. Not so with a church. By the very nature of a church. In attendance you are accepting their belief system. You are supposed to alter your life to fit the ideal of the congregation. This isn’t just for gay people but everyone who attends that church. Are there bad churches out there?--yes, and you can drive right passed them on your way to a good church such as the UU, UCC or MCC. In most communities there is a welcoming church.

Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." How could you be completely comfortable in a Church setting as a gay person? Only if you were really dense.
