  • As far as I understand the manufacturing date is when the car was physically made and is the more accurate date. For example you can already buy cars that are the 2010 model. But they will have been manufactured in 2009.
  • Both are accurate (assuming that they haven't been 'altered'). Both are important, particularily when ordering parts: the 'parts person' will 1st ask the 'year' (ie, 'model year') &, frequently, the 'DOM' = 'Date of Manufacture'.
  • I bought my 08 truck in Aug of 07 it has been this way for decades
