  • colons are used for lists and quotations. You can list things in a sentence, such as: people's names, ice cream flavors, or favorite colors. semi-colons are used to link to independent clauses without a connecting words. I have a cat; he's purring loudly.
  • I think semi colon is when they have to take part of your colon out so you end up with a "semi colon". And a period is commonly refered to "the red river blues". I hope that helps my friend! LOL +5
  • A period marks two different ideas apart, whereas a semi-colon initiates the same pause a period would, but implies that the two clauses are linked in context, or have a stronger link than two seperate sentences would have.
