I had it last Christmas...well, I guess now two Christmases ago. I was at work and was just feeling run down...I kept rubbing my side and when I went to lift a patient, I felt a sharp pain in my side and apparently went very white, so my charge nurse sent me to the ER, where they did a abdominal exam and said..."Charitie, you're a nurse. You know the symptoms of a hot appy. Nausea, fever, pain over McBurney's point. (note: McBurney's point: right lower quadrant pain that begins around the naval and over the course of a few hours, localizes over the appendix)" I then went to CT to check it, and surgery thereafter. I now have a huge scar (larger than normal because I had a post-operative infection! yuck!) that I tell people is from getting into an alligator fight. :)

Tell him that an RN said he could potentially have a very bad appendicitis and that could leave to the untimely death of a good man. Then club him and drag him! :)

I just went through the harrowing experience of Appendicitious with my husband. He kept telling me it was just a bad belly ache. Needless to say, I somehow knew it was more serious than that. Took him to the hospital around 3:30pm, Dr's started right to work, found out his white count was way out of kilter. lots of low right pain. The only different thing was that his temp. was running 95.3. They operated around 8:00pm and was in his room by 10:15pm. Dr. said it didn't rupture but it was very inflamed and there was some pus around it. Dr. said he should stay in hospital a couple days so that he can get antibiotics interveniously. He was doing pretty fair when I left. Please, please do not play around with that kind of pain, it's very dangerous. nanaflash3
