  • LOL. I think it may be because when using your cell you may be out in public places and they think you can't hear you over everyone in the background :D
  • Say WHAT!!!???
  • How old is "old"? I've never seen anyone do this? Why do young people draw broad conclusions based on only one or two observations? Perhaps the tinny nature of the piezo speaker in the phone subconsciously makes them think the person is farther away so they raise their voice to compensate. Or maybe they have more important things on their minds than how to look cool with each new idiosyncratic piece of technology.
  • Why do so many people think they have to flap their lips on the phone while "enjoying" sinner with their family? Or even sit there at a table in a restaurant with their husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend with a bluetooth crammed in their ear? Or merge into heavy interstate traffic with a phone velcro'd to their ear? Or people in restaurants talking on their phone loudly enough to be clearly heard by everyone around them? Or answer their phone while they are trying to make change or write a check to the cashier at Walmart while I'm waiting in line behind them? Or text people while driving down the road? Or do ANYTHING on the phone in a place of business where it interferes with the business transaction at hand? Or not turn their phonnes off or put them on vibrate in places like churches, doctor's offices, classrooms, `meetings, and so forth? The answer is because they are rude.
  • Because they're losing their sense of hearing.
  • Depends on how old we're talking, cause hearing is usually the first sense to fade.
  • Hearing problems not aware they are talking loud. Don't really care what others think. Show off
  • Sometimes their cell phones are small and they have trouble using It or maybe they just want you to hear them perfectly loud and clear..LOL
  • getting used to speaking in them small phones and dont know how to set volumes so it seems that we are shouting to be heard.lol
  • What do you call old? I mean if you're 12, a 25 year old will look old to you. As for how or where people use their phones, why single out phones, people do all sorts of inappropriate things at inappropriate moments. You all shot yourselves in the foot complaining about people and mobile phones, all of which was initially out of jealousy, now none of you can use them where you'd like to. Why not just live and let live, otherwise we'll have even more restrictions on our lives and the things we want to do. Mobiles are here to stay, get used to it.
  • Generally it's because the only "hand-held" talking devices they have been used to using in their lives were CB radios, which you do sort of have to holler into because microphones for them were not as quality as they are now; they couldn't cancel out background noise and, because of the transmission devices, the message wasn't always five-by-five like we now take for granted on modern cell phones.
  • they do talk louder on the phone than in person idk why....maybe because they can't see you or maybe because they can't hear very well...good luck+4.
  • It's not just old people. How many young people do you hear shouting while talking on their cell phones, especially in airports. They don't talk that loud when speaking on their regular phone, I guess they think everyone wants to hear their personal business. Has nothing to do with age, believe me.
  • Because they can remember the earlier cell phones that didn't have the best pickup, and loud talking was necessary to be heard and understood.
  • Because they don't pick up just fine. They suck usually.
  • Its like closing your 1 eye, will give you a narrow vision. Covering 1 ear with phone will lessen their sense of hearing. Its better if they will use earpiece or headset just like VoIP calls(http://www.ringcentral.com).
  • My dad does it all the time. Elderly seem to think no one can hear you.
  • Maybe they are talking to another old person who is hard of hearing.
  • It's not just old people!
  • 1.) Maybe they think it's like a walkie-talkie radio. You needed to shout into those things. 2.) Maybe they can't hear so well (hearing going) so they think it's the same for the other person.
  • they can't hear themselves thru the phone so they subconscousely think the other party can't hear either. it's like when your wearing earbuds listening to music, you can't hear your self so you talk louder then you meant to.
  • Say WHAT?! I don't hear so well anymore! BTW: Get offa my grass! ;-)
