I call that "hawking a deal". You must set up some type of damage control. My industry is real estate and claiming a data base is difficult without the authority of senior management and they play favorites in the firm usually. I work alone now because of that very reason. Control your own destiny. If mgmt won't help, you need to think a different path. Good Luck!

Ask the co-worker out for lunch, and simply explain what you think or feel is going on and ask him/her to tell you what is really going on so that there is no misunderstandings. Hopefully there is no lies, and everything can get settled, watch for words like, Never, only, always, cant, 2 words rapidly given with eye contact strong or not given at all. That would probably mean lies, then where you go from there is up to you.
