Non fiction, of course, under religion. The Bible was not written as fiction, but as truth.
-
They put it is the political section..
-
Actually, I believe it's placed with the reference books.
-
Refrence Section.
-
Definately fiction...I'd probably get expelled if I suggested that to our school library... but Mr Ellis might let me off...
-
Fiction of course, I don't think that even christians believe that those stories actually happened...
-
I think religious texts should have their own section - saves on arguments.
-
The Bible is non-fiction.
-
The Bible defies this categorization. The Bible is a collection of many writings by many authors over a period of hundreds of years. There are stories, histories, biographies and letters and political commentary. There are songs, poems, wise sayings, laws, and commandments. There are lessons about life and love and God. Jews believe the authors of the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) were inspired by God. Christians believe the authors of both the Old and New Testament were inspired by God. With love in Christ.
-
Fiction :)
-
It's fictionalized, like the tales of Baron Munchausen.
-
I don't know if fiction is the right term. Allegory or maaaybe philosphy if we cut out three quaters of it. But fiction would work to.
-
Neither. It belongs in the Reference section or Religion section, which at my bookstore does not categorize as fiction or non.
-
I think it needs to go in "Religion." Faith and religion are pretty much, by definition, counter to what many people would consider provable or disprovable. So, I think that trying to categorize into fiction or non-fiction would require an inaccurate assumption.
-
Non-fiction along with origin of the species and Battlefield Earth
-
If there are only fiction and non-fiction, I say put it in both. It's a great deal of fiction, but there is also some history in it. The original discovery of Sumerian civilization by archaeologists was due to biblical scriptures about Shinar (Sumer). There is a lot of junk in there that can't be proven and hence may as well be fiction, but to be fair, at least some of it is fact. Also, it is very important in Jewish and Western culture, and for that reason alone it warrants non-fiction. I won't go into the obvious reasons why it could go into fiction. But there aren't only two classifications. The Bible would and should go into "Religion", "Faith", or "The Occult".

This is a dupe...someone else asked it already with the correct spelling of libraries. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/139031 Flagged as a dupe.

Id like to know what it said on the screen of the waterstone's computers when you bought a bible! "The system has suffered a fatal error. (ERROR 666). Unable to define fiction or non-fiction for book: The Bible"
-
The religious section... The bible is not pure fiction - some of the history recorded in it is quite accurate - some not. It is not pure non-fiction though - chunks of it are obviously stories or made-up and other chunks are seriously debatable. It has songs and poems and parables and myths and fables and all sorts of stuff...
-
neither they put them in the religious section which is neither fiction or non fiction!
-
Neither, they are in the reference section.
-

Some libraries use the Dewey Decimal System to organize their books. The 200 block and sub-numbers within that are for RELIGION and MYTHOLOGY. You'll find material on all the world's religions there. Here's a link showing the top level organization of this way of organizing books in libraries by call numbers: http://www.asd.edu.qa/pages/sitepage.cfm?page=43788
-
Depends on the library. How about refererence or religion.
