  • A follower of Christ whether they act on it or not. But you can't lump all of any group into one basket.
  • A person who claims to follow the alleged teachings of Jesus of Nazareth via the scriptures of what we know as the New Testament of the bible and that he died for our sins. Whether he was divine is not universally agreed upon by the various groups under the Christian Umbrella although that would be a valid for most christian sects.
  • Jefferson said it best [Creeds] have been the bane and ruin of the Christian church, its own fatal invention, which, through so many ages, made of Christendom a slaughterhouse, and at this day divides it into castes of inextinguishable hatred to one another. -- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Thomas Whitmore, June 5, 1822, quoted from James A Haught, editor, 2000 Years of Disbelief On the dogmas of religion, as distinguished from moral principles, all mankind, from the beginning of the world to this day, have been quarreling, fighting, burning and torturing one another, for abstractions unintelligible to themselves and to all others, and absolutely beyond the comprehension of the human mind. -- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Archibald Carey, 1816 No man complains of his neighbor for ill management of his affairs, for an error in sowing his land or marrying his daughter, for consuming his substance in taverns.... In all these he has liberty; but if he does not frequent the church, or then conform in ceremonies, there is an immediate uproar. -- Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-82

  • Mainstream Christians are people that believe that: 1) Jesus (the Christ = anointed one) is the son of God 2) was born as a perfect human without sin 3)lived a perfect life and committed no sin 4) that Jesus and God are one and the same spirit 5) that Jesus died a horrific death as an atonement for all the sins that humans have ever or will commit. If you believe that Jesus paid a ransom sacrifice for you, then when you are resurrected, you will enjoy eternal bliss in the presence of God.
  • 1John read it and you will know what a christian is.
  • To call yourself Christian only means that you believe that Jesus was the Christ or Messiah. To BE Christian means that you devote your life to trying to be the embodiment of the living Christ. To live the teaching of Christ. Some people claim to be Christian and say that they cannot sin and go ahead and do anything that they want to because nothing is sinful for them. This is an error. When it is said that the believers in Christ cannot sin it means that they refuse to commit sinful acts.
  • I'll give you the Christian slogan, "Surrender your personal power, join me in slavery, come worship Jesus now."
  • I guess you should define what you mean by "good"...how do you determine if it is a "good" definition or not? Have you tried the dictionary or dictionary.com? What are you comparing the "good" definition to?
  • Simple- anyone who says he is. Until he gets caught doing something he shouldn't- then suddenly he's not a "REAL" Christian.
  • Here's the best definition I have found: "CHRISTIAN, n. One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin." The Devil's Dictionary
  • 1) "A Christian is a person who adheres to Christianity, a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and interpreted by Christians to have been prophesied in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament." Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian 2) "Christianity (from the word XριστÏŒς "Christ") is a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus as presented in the New Testament. Adherents of Christianity, known as Christians, believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah prophesied in the Hebrew Bible (the part of scripture common to Christianity and Judaism). The majority of orthodox Christian theology claims that Jesus suffered, died, and was resurrected to bring about salvation from sin. They further maintain that Jesus ascended into heaven, and most denominations teach that Jesus will return to judge all humans, living and dead, and grant immortality to his followers. He is considered the model of a virtuous life, and both the revealer and physical incarnation of God. Christians call the message of Jesus Christ the Gospel ("good news") and hence refer to the earliest written accounts of his ministry as gospels." • those who have a personal following of Jesus, through thoughts, word and deeds....Christlike...:)justme
  • I would say a definition that would apply to all of those who call themselves Christian would be: "Anyone that believes that Jesus is the son of God and accepts him as their savior". Many would say that anyone that believes in Jesus is a Christian. But the Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet, but they do not think he was the son of God, nor do they consider themselves Christian. Personally, I think that the Bible shows more than just believing and accepting is warranted. (Luke6:46; mat7:21-23; James1:22; James2:18-22; Mt 28:19,20) http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke6:46;%20mat7:21-23;James1:22;James2:18-22;%20mat28:19-20;&version=49;15;45;47;51; There are also those that believe that you are Christian only if you believe that Jesus is God and is also God's son.
  • how did Jesus tell them they should be toward one another so that people whould know they were of HIM? love each other as HE did..believer loving believer, wash each others feet as HE did....care for each other as HE did...the LOVE for fellow believers is what will show they are Christlike..:)justme
  • there is a big difference between what christianity truely is, and what people believe that call themselves christians. I'm sorry to say.. The way many many people that call themselves christian these days discribe their belief is more actually this: "I was raised learning about how good Jesus was, and i think he was a great man. An example of how to live for others. If only everyone was as great as he was, or tried, there would be peace and love in the world" In my honest oppinion the following defenition should be used, and subsequently all who fall out of that are NOT christians, thus solving your problem with grouping all of them..: My defenition of a christian is a person who believes the following (in short): Jesus is the son of God, who was flawless and obeyed His father up to his sacifice and death. By this He broke the bonds of death, and He is the only way for us to be reconciled with God our father and live with Him in eternity. All He asks is that you accept Him as your saviour. those of you who don't see the difference are probably the former kind ;).
  • First of all Christian does not equal perfect! The concept of non christians thinking that a person claiming to be is perfect ,, NOT! We all are born into sin , and we all sin every single day, there is no way we can go through a day without sinning, that is why there is forgiveness which is to be asked for because without forgiveness the heart goes bitter. Now lets not get off your subject question here,, there is a dictionary definition of a christian , but let me give you a simple definition, Most christians are folks that are trying to live as a believer of God/Jesus and follow the bibles teachings. There are many religions out there and mostly they do have many man made laws in their religions and they can confuse a person. But a christian person that is following their heart will know when they did something or said something wrong, and they do their best to show love and have compassion on others when they need it. Because when a person does accept Jesus and is fortunate to feel the love only He can instill in you, then it just bursts out of you and others can and will see it. So it really isnt about being a 'good' person a christian has a big responsibility because it was told to go and preach to all the nations and the last commandment Jesus gave before He left was Love one another! and sometimes it is very hard to love people and be 'good' when they are down rated or cut down for trying to show the love and compassion and for doing what they have been called to do. I hope this helps you ,,,
