Question

Help answer this question below.

I'm thinking about getting my tragus pierced, and I'm pretty set on it, but I was wondering if they pierce it with a stud/barbell or with a hoop, because I really don't want a hoop! Just a small discrete barbell.

When I got mine done the would not pierce it with a barbell because the hoop helps you keep the piercing cleaner. Since you can rotate the hoop you can clean it well; the barbell would allow junk to build up and it could get infected!! I would just get the hoop and in a couple weeks go back to have it changed.

it depends what place you get it pierced at.

I went with my roommate to get her's pierced. the place we went to pierced her with a hoop. some piercers claim it's easier and more sterile to pierce with a hoop.

if you go to some both at the mall, chances are they'll use a piercing guna nd a stud. piercing guns are not sterile! not safe. go to a tattoo/piercing parlor. they'll use a hollow needle and thhread the hoop through.

My piercer gave me a choice of either ring or barbell when I got my tragus pierced saying that the ring might be easier to keep clean but a bar can heal quicker and is more discreet. I went for the bar and have had no problems with it. I cleaned it twice a day with a hot water and sea salt solution and its healing nicely two months on.

I got mine pierced with a 16g barbell. It's small enough to look like a stud. My piercer said that a stud is too small and could fall out when you're sleeping.

Talk to some piercers and ask what they prefer and why. You'll find some that claim rings are easier to heal since they allow for easier drainage and don't have something against the hole. Some will tell you how curved jewelry in cartilage will put pressure on the sides of the piercing, and that rings get snagged more often.

Find a piercer that trusts you will follow your aftercare, let them know you are aware of what healing this piercing will entail. If you seem well informed, they'll pierce you however you like. Barbells are no riskier than rings, and a piercer shouldn't refuse to use a certain type of jewelry unless it's actually dangerous, or has very little chance of ever healing properly. My piercer says barbells are better. I get rings.

Did you get it done? I'm getting mine tomorrow and I want it pierced with a bar as well... not a ring...
