No, I call it wanting to get money for the government's dollar. The companies don't have to accept the administration's controls - but then they don't get the money. True socialism would be handing over the money without asking questions just to save jobs. I call this a very conservative "I want went I paid for" approach.

well since the UAW had help him get elected with 470 millions dollars and he just double crossed them. yes it is one step closer to the edge.

The GM plan would have depended on the federal government to continue pouring money into the business with no real solution for the future. The President did not agree with this and i agree with him. If the Stimulus Package money is only a "bandaid" for GM, then someone else needs to take over. Tax payers dollars should not pay for private enterprise. It sets a back example for Americans and the rest of the world.

I was somewhat taken aback that the GM CEO quit because the White House asked him to. That seems out of line, but i don't know all the details. On initial review, i think it's out of line for Obama to ask that.

When an industry careers off the road into a ditch, those responsible for the steering need to be sobered up, made to walk the line, and asked what sort of road map they thought they were following. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - If and when they come up with a rational plan, maybe then they can expect some (taxpayer) help.

well lets see your tax money was spent they want more of your tax money that doesnt make sense and the auto industry has been going downhill for a while always trying to sell the biggest gas guzzler they can to everyone they might have made a short term recovery if fuel did not cost so damn much but they deserve that also its common knowledge that they have agreements with the oil industry. it all settles down to one thing greed and they sitting on their buts wanting more money they were told to come up with solutions before coming back to the table for another share of tax dollars that proves viability to pay off this debt and keep the company's going

Maybe, and maybe you see this as a bad thing. Maybe you wouldn't mind seeing the entire American auto industry disappear. Maybe you wouldn't mind that portion of our economy going away. Maybe you wouldn't mind seeing all those works out of work. And maybe you don't realize that Michigan has one of the countries highest employment rates because of the auto industry. Maybe you wouldn't mind seeing the unemployment rate spike even more. And maybe you're ok with allowing our economy to collapse. Finally, maybe you don't realize just how badly Detroit needs help.

How is the Obama Administration's Controls over the auto industry unprecedented? It's corrective. Please remember that the auto industry has been pumping out the same gas guzzling SUV's with huge government tax credits for the last 8 years. Oil,gas bush...global warming isn't real. Remember? THAT was unprecedented control over the auto industry for the greedy gains of a small group. At an incalculable expense to our environment and economy. Atleast we are getting things set right I only hope it isn't too late.

A $50 Lesson in politics: I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President of the United States some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?' She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.' Her parents beamed with pride. 'Wow...what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'But wait, you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where a homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use for food.' She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy just come over and do the yard work, and you can just pay him the $50?'
