I just wrote original lyrics to an instrumental song (Allure by Le Wax) that someone posted on YouTube. If I post the version with me singing my lyrics, how can I be sure that someone else won't use it and call it THEIR original?

You can't, especially since the lyrics are to a song that you have no rights to. I guess you could copyright the words, but that would be more trouble than its worth for this matter.

What are you trying to accomplish-retain rights to it? If so, you need to learn something about intellectual property law. By putting it on YouTube you're essentialy making it public domain.

You could try a "poor mans copyright" by recording it and then seal it in an envelope take it to the post office and then post mark it.

Oh i forgot after you postmark the envelope put it in another envelope and mail it to yourself when you receive it don't open it just put it in a drew or some place safe. I have hear this will stand up in court. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poor_man%27s_copyright
