I found a Haitian 5 gourdes coin (value: 20 cents CDN) in my pocket. Someone obviously passed it off as a Canadian 1 dollar coin. What foreign coinage are you aware of which so resembles higher-value domestic coins that it can pass at a casual glance?

There are new Turkish Lira coins that look dangerously similar to 1 Euro coins. Their value is about a quarter Euro.

Before the Euro came in, I was pretty expert at european coinage! I used to have little plastic bags of european coins from various countries - a french franc used to fit into the £1 coin slot of supermarket trollies! You know when you are going to travel abroad and you get your money exchanged at the bank, they always give you notes, but normally when you arrive in a foreign country, you need coins - either to use the toilet, or the telephone or something like that - well I always had coins ready! Now we have the euro, I have little bags of uselessness! *LOL*
