I am shy because I find that I don't like most people out there. Thus, there's no incentive to go around meeting new people.

Because I don't think people will like me. That's why I almost never say anything.

I think it's human nature to be shy, because getting to know people is one of the hardest things that people have to encounter in every day life. Trying to get along with someone is one of the more difficult tasks that we come across in making friends and basically knowing someone better on a basis stronger than a nodding aquaintance. Being shy isn't a bad personality trait- I think we use it as a defense mechanism against those that don't relate to us as easily as we wish they would, and therefore we become shy in getting to know them.
