  • Some of them are exciting, and they are doted over and appear to have it all made. Of course we realize that is not true usually. It's a form of escapism I guess.
  • That is an interesting question .I work in the film industry and find nothing particularly interesting about them.Celebrities have a job like anyone else ,it is just they are in the spotlight. I feel it is a waste of time to watch celebrities lives, for there is so more interesting things to do.When I first started in the biz I thought wow famous actors. That wore off quickly,as I realized that they are ,in reality ,no more or less important than I am.So I do not know why people have any interest.
  • I think boredom and loneliness play a large role in this obsession... it's like peaking thru the blinds at your neighbors' activities, wanting to know more about their business.
  • I would imagine because people think the Celebrities lives are so much more exciting than their own
  • I am not star-struck myself, however I know a lot of people see celebrities as people who have got it all; fame, fortune, etc... and find comfort in knowing that they have ordinary problems too.
  • More than likely they have no lives of their own.
  • It's a reliable jagged edge against which one's psyche can "rub" to shed layers of dead and dying ego.
  • a lot of people feel their lives are meaningless and colourless, so live out their fantasy lives via celebrities. sad, i think, when many of those celebrities are not really anything to envy.
  • I'm extremely into celebrity gossip, as silly as that sounds. I guess after seeing their work and becoming a fan, and then opening a magazine to see them picking their wedgies and every other little thing they do (in what is supposed to be private), we end up feeling like we know them.
  • Because it makes one glad for their own problems at times.
  • Usually because the lives of celebrities seem much more glamorus than theirs.
  • I always figured it was because people like to gossip, and celebrities are so well known that you can do this anywhere.. unlike, say, gossiping about your coworkers at home. You can go almost anywhere and say to a perfect stranger, "can you believe Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband is the father of Ana Nichole Smith's baby?" and boom - instant conversation for ten minutes. Also, you can't be busted at it, since you'll never meet these people.
  • They are living vicariously. Voyeurism. Schadenfreude. Plus, who wants to look completely out of touch standing around the water cooler?
  • A lot of people are interested in the personal lives of celebrities b/c they are our entertainment. We want to see them up close and personal. Some people believe their lives are dull and boring compared to a celebrity's life and anything they do or say has to be scrutinized and observed to make sure they are living up to the pedestal status that is given them.
  • because they get to live the glamorous life and people always wonder what there up too
  • Because we are all so bored with our own insignifigant lives. Actually I dunno... that always bothered me.
  • ... or answering questions about whether or not Lil John is the King of Krunk (it's on the front page right now)? I totally agree and I turn the hannel when celebrity news comes on.
  • Celebrities fascinate people. I will admit that I like reading about celebrities, but that is as far as it goes. It's just entertainment and famous people are always interesting as it is. As long as you don't take it further than that and live your own life.
  • We're not the media is. we just feed off the media.
  • I don't have a Frickin' clue! Media-Whores that exist only because of the paparazzi are the most useless celebrities I can think of. And talented actors, performers and the like that just want to be able to do everyday things and live normal lives when they're not doing their "thing" ought to have the same sort of privacy that all other people get to take for granted. I would love to see people who spend all their time making these gossip mags and paparazzi rich, see what it's like to always have cameras and reporters crawling all over them 24/7 and see if they like being in the "zoo-cage" for a switch.
  • Because they are bored.
  • they want to know what their fav stars do in their lives
  • I sort of understand it but I wish a ton more common sense and civility could be used. Being a celebrity has always come with the inevitable attention from the public and the press, it's kind of what the definition of being a celebrity is. I do wish the media would have the decency to allow them some privacy, while on the other hand I abhor those celebs who do bizarre things to keep their name in the spotlight, then whine about negative press coverage. It's pathetic.
  • I think that this happens mostly because people are so unsatisfied with their own lives. There isn't any celebrity that I look to, and wouldn't want to live the life of one. I think life in the "public eye" would be awful.
  • Because people are nosey and don't know how to stay out of other peoples buissness! Also I blame the celebrities because they throw themselves into the spot light and wonder why people won't leave them alone!
  • i think it is because people love a bit of gossip. they like to know what is going on. and if people look up to those celebrities, they like to know what kind of things they do, what they wear, who they love and things like that. they like to follow their trend. x
  • We are tribal animals, evolved to live in groups of about 50-150 people. In such groups, it is essential to know where you stand, and where everybody else stands with respect toe everybody else. Who owes who favours, how can you advance yourself by helping others? Who has power (to suck up to) and who cheats (to avoid dealing with)? So gossip is a fundamental function of human society. And, since the chief is the most important person in the tribe, who can help or hinder most, gossip about him is most valuable. A god way to get to the chief is to be friends with his newest wife or favourite son. So gossip about the rich and powerful is as important as gossip about the neighbours. Move forward to today. Inst4ead of a community of 150, we have a community of 150 million. But we still want to gossip about (1) neighbours and (2) the rich and powerful. The media cannot help much with gossip about neighbours (but see Facebook, MySpace etc.) but can tell us a lot about the (apparently) rich and powerful i.e. celebrities. So it is an instinct designed for a tribal animal going "wrong" in the modern world.
