Yes. Dryer vortex. (...silly!) The dryer actually opens up a wormhole, in the process of drying that is large enough only for one sock. After the sock has been pulled into the Dryer Vortex, it is pulled into the "other side," never to be seen again. I suggest buying all white socks of the same cut. heheh.

Actually, the dryer isn't the main culprit, as many people believe. As a former plumber, I can tell you that the washing machine eats more socks in a year than the dryer could in a lifetime. The socks get sucked right thru the drain hose and into the drain line. In the dryer, there are no openings big enough for the sock while it is pretty much still intact. (vortex or not...lol)

you want to hear something even more strange...i have socks come out of the dryer that aren't mine or the other person's that lives here...we are baffled!!!

I always say Socks are like sex ; tones of it around but I never seem to have any.

Don't you know? There is a dryer monster that comes and takes them...It just sucks them right out through the vent and they evaporate into space never to be seen again. I have tried to catch it but it is too evasive.
