Why do people choose to hang themselves above other means of suicide? It sounds like a horrible way to go....

Because if done the way it's supposed to, you're neck will break when you fall and that'll be a quick and not so painless death. If your neck doesn't break, you'll suffocate and that is a pretty horrible way to go.

I'm not saying supporting suicide, but I'm not alienating people that do it either, I don't think it's right to judge people unless you know their full history and background. Just say it's wrong and immoral and dramatic and selfish isn't always the case and if you are feeling depressed enough to do it, hearing that you're sick isn't going to make you want to stick around. Don't judge people so harshly.

It is a horrible way to go if you get it wrong and contrary to what people believe there is a significant failure rate associated with hanging.

People who have failed in hanging attempts often end up with brain damage and a significantly worse life than before their suicide attempt.

cause they dont have a gun..
not very many other options.. maybe they dont like taking drugs.

They want to die and make a statement at the same time. They want their death to be dramatic and painful for whoever is "supposed" to find them. Usually, it's an effort to get back at someone.

Because it's easier and maybe even quicker and less painful. All you have to do is put that noose around your neck, kick the chair out from below your feet or maybe jump from where you stand...

Once you pop, you can't stop.

I cannot even imagine taking my life let alone hanging myself! I do not know!

i believe who choose that method in the presence of other fast and effective methods are doubtful whether they really want to do it....

my best friend, steven garrett hung himself this month of may 2010. he was married when he was 16 to a beautiful girl, his first love, and they had a baby. they were to young to be parents and they broke up. the rest of his life, he looked for them. he finally found them through facebook and he left California to live in West Virginia right beside both the daughter and her mother. his dream had become reality. he had a place to live. he was going to work at the water treatment he always wanted to. he was looking forward to enjoy being a grandpa one day. he hung himself leaving no letter to tell us why. he was found by his landlord. why would a person kill himself when he finally met the goal of his life? i am totally empty without him...

Well my mother suffered from pain due to a neck surgery gone bad back in the early 90's and a jaw surgery gone wrong in 2005 no doctors could help the physical pain she has endure through out the years and gave up by hanging herself at the age of 55 sep. 3rd 2009..I am so sad.. I love you mom,your daughter carrie....and please people don't judge a book by it's cover my mom tried to hang on for as long as she could.

hanging is clean and neat. it is important for some people to make their demise efficient and easy for a quick clean up. plus the tools are usually readily available. just a slip trip and a fall. people who arent neat blow themselves in the head with a shotgun.

Lots of people use hanging because it's a slow death. This gives plenty of opportunity for them to be rescued. I didn't think of that till I was told by a passing Psychologist.

And it is the easy way to go. Tell me when you are adding numbers together do you use the calculator or your head? Alot of people use the calculator. Why? Because it is easy! You see when it comes to convience people don't care what it does to them just like when it is convient to get a candy, however do note that if you eat candy your teeth rot. Well then why eat the candy? Well it makes you happy and it is conviently located. The same applies to suicidal people.

To make a statement. It is also quick.

Perhaps they are in effect 'executing' themselves since hanging is historically, a common form of capital punishment and part of a sort of 'cultural psyche'? Maybe it depends on the mind-set of the victim, whether they feel persecuted by life or whether they feel a need to escape their problems? If the latter, taking drugs and falling asleep might seem like a good escape. But if you're angry with the world/yourself then the concept of punishment might come into the act? I don't know but I have known people who've killed themselves by this and other methods, wrist-cutting, drugs etc., Very sad.

I had felt depress, had some sucidal thoughts... doesnt mean i would.. there are was to coop.. I was effected to some one in my familly and friends and firends of friends that had, shoot themselves.. hung them selves.. It has a worsed after math.. living the familly and loved ones thru a ruff cycle of anger.. guilt.. remorse... etc.. some never get thru the after effects...
They are help, 1-800 number.. suicide is never the answer... so for the ppl are Pro-suicide.. i dont know how you guys think...
Feels like year after year more numbers of ppl gets added to the pole of suicide... the scociety keeps under the carpet... i can understand its hard to find the help.. and the when you are so in the dark its hard to see the light.. or find it to hard to have the humility to ask for help... i think thats why as a community we have to keep aware and be that power of example to make this world a lil harder to live... and push the paper and commercials to have awarness to stop the count of suicide... its hard enouff to live in a world that all involve with Time.. Money.. Money and Time... Work for food and no Fun... all busneiss and profit.. Sex apeall and try to be a "ganster" lol.... Where is Our moral and values... I would never thought of the day to hear some one say . " suicide is okay.. if you look at his history" !!!! what knd of example is that ?

am just saying... ppl that hang him self.. had demons inside..leaft them feel hopeless, dispear, self reason...etc.. .. they had ignor the lil voice within that is pure saying dont be afriad... ask for help.. there is a light... Its up To us " every day ppl to show that light.. just by being nice... even if its lil acts.. : saying hello.. open the door... its not much but its start of a difference... you never know when u cut in line. make a dirty face or make a nasty comment to the guy that might be on the last tread to stay alive...

i heard these people usually know or researched and supposedly it only takes 5 seconds for someone to loose consciousness when the carotid artery is pressed on. then 10 min. to actually die but painlessly because the person is usually unconscious still. my female cousin 20 years old just hung herself on Friday Sept. 16 2011 she left behind two babies a 3 yr old and a 9 mth old both girls. her 3 year old found her hanging in her closet. but the thing is she was hung so low enough that she could have stepped up she was found with knees really bent so she must have just dropped herself down and let it happen. she used a mans tie. she killed herself because her babys dad was very abusive to her and he had just left her alone with her babies and took all she had all her money and everything. this abuse had been going on and she kept it all inside for so long. she also suffered from bipolar. she really wanted to end the pain she felt but i still cant believe she couldnt just look at her beautiful babies and just live for them. I miss her so much and I pray that she doesnt suffer anymore and that GOD can forgive her and understand. I just wish I knew that if she changed her mind could it have been to late even if she could have stood up and loosened the tie?

I am not really sure why people act out like this. However, my husband and i have lost a good friend. Sunday december 5, 2010. His girlfriend found him in her front room hanging. It doesn't seem logical. They had a big blow out and she was never happy with what he did. They just had a baby, baby 4 months old. I just don't believe he would do that. Is it true one can hang their own selves or does it require help? apparently this guy took a sheet and did it' i am still in shock. I can't believe it. I wonder if there is file play? just wanted to vent. The funeral is monday of this week. Unbelievable.

Honestly? It's the easiest way. I'm Bipolar and I've tried to commit suicide 3 times - when you become suicidal, you can't see how good life is, you get sucked into this black hole and all you can think about is cutting off pain.
Hanging yourself is cleaner than slitting your wrists or shooting yourself, easier than drinking pills. It has nothing to do with wanting to be saved. When you try to commit suicide, you do not want to be saved. You want to stop feeling pain. It's more about that than the method. And well, hanging yourself is just the easiest way to get it done.

Maybe some people feel they deserve pain and want a painful death.

I think that alcohlol and or drugs may have a lot to do with it.When someone is depressed to begin with add a depressant to the equasion and there you have it. You want out NOW! There is no other solution and your brain cannot function clearly under the influence. There is no reason or thought of anything good. Your reasoning skills go to sleep. The world has crashed down on you and you have lost all hope. No one cares nothing will ever change and everyone would be better off without you anyway. Guaranteed the majority of suicides are under the influence or have a severe mental disorder to begin with. Can't say I have never thought of it or come close myself. Sometimes life just sucks and to live is to die so why bother?

I am trying to understand why my relative hung herself at age 16 when her autopsy stated she was sober. I was close to her, like a sister, and I saw her 2 days before.

My friend hung herself and I didn't see it coming. I know she was depressed but i never thought she would go through with it. Or maybe I never wanted to believe that she would! It is all so weird now.


49 and feeling like it wasn't worth it. Her son is graduating college, she had a great job. She seemed happy. So what if you have a bad marriage...leave him. Move on! Why end it???

If you are thinking about this as a solution, please reconsider. It leaves us all empty and with a vast amount of questions that all end in,,,WHY ,why why why???
