  • I think the Standard American Diet (SAD) that is being adopted all over the world is the cause. Especially since America has the highest obesity of any country in the world.
  • Great question! Technology is perhaps a contributing factor but I think people's attitudes are more so. For instance, when was the last time you saw kids playing outside as opposed to playing a video game? I ride my bicycle to work in the warmer months but now that it's cold... here I sit on my computer!
  • Yes. We're all (myself included) sitting on our butts too much.
  • Not the main, but it definitely contributes. I love technology, I'm on the computer a lot. BUT.....I also take the time and have the motivation to exercise and not eat fast food 3 times a week....
  • Technology and business - it's cheaper for people to get take-away now than fresh fruits and vegetables (in certain parts of the world). There should be markets where people can directly buy produce from farmers, but there are only a few of these and conglomerates usually introduce a pricey middle-man.
  • In part it has a role to play, but I would say will power, or the lack of, is the main cause.
  • No, with that technology, they can find information on health care. Poor eating habits and lack of exercise, and laziness, in most cases, there are always exceptions to the rule.
  • The typical diet today is loaded with fat.. fast foods are part of the problem, and a lot of parents take their kids for fast food quite a bit, and now we have childhood obesity going through the roof. Lack of exercise due to the popularity of computer games, etc. certainly doesn't help either, and a lot of kids spend their summers in day care where there is little or no exercise.
  • Yes. The birth of the Industrial Revolution helped bring this change about. Just imagine if we didn't have the technology we have today - there would be lots more manual labor (and probably less people too, because of more work). Hmm...
  • No, technology does not make people obese. Obesity is the result of people not having adequate understanding combined with not having adequate self control. There are no obese nutritionists. There are no obese health science instructors. Health is mostly a combination of correct understanding and correct choices. Our technology shows us very clearly how to maximize our health and avoid obesity, yet some people still do not learn, and they wonder why they keep gaining weight ... and some unscrupulous food businesses continue to encourage the ignorant behaviour of over eating the wrong foods & under exercising, just so they can profit from the ignorance of those who keep getting more obese.
  • if it wasnt for my Ipod i wouldnt be motivated to go out for a jog, run, or walk
  • Have you been watching Wall-e? he-he-he
  • No, I think laziness is the main cause.
  • No. Too much junk food and poor eating habits.
  • You mean sitting in front of a computer screen for hours every day rather than going out and getting exercise and living a life? Perhaps it is a contributory factor. However, there are many of us who spends hours each day on our butts in front of a computer screen who have solved the weight problem forever. Make wise choices. Don't eat crap. Don't eat enough to feed a whale. Eat wisely, eat sensibly and eat for health not for gluttony! :)
  • Yes for videogames are making kids fat because they pork themselves with food while playing them.
  • Taco-flavored Doritos are the main cause.
  • Yes life is now easy and people are lazy ;0)
  • In a word no, there's to many contributing factors, such as knowlege, balance diet, exercise, for a start. Good question.
  • Absolutely, the mind-control technology of advertising is the main cause.
