Throughout the ages has it always been that young women with low self esteem would have babies (something to say "I love you"), or is it more of a recent phenomenon?

Many very young women have had babies for millenia. It is not a recent phenomenon. However, many women who are not interested in a career have children at a very young age.

It is not a recent phenomenon and self esteem has little if anything to do with the total situation. Before women could work outside the home or could work in more than menial jobs, they usually did not have a choice so grabbing a good man when they presented themselves was the thing to do. There was a time they couldn't be too choosy or the chance would go by. This has been true for men also because in the days of very slow transportation, most did not wander very far from home.

Your question seems to be based on an allegation that this was true in the past and than continues to ask what we think in the present based on that. Considering the growth rate of the world population; and without any facts to back it up - I would contend there are multitudes of reason for women and men conceiving children throughout the ages. Low esteem may be one of the reasons but I would not attempt to say in what percentage.
