Why does my outside central air condenser make a screeching noise when running the heat/ac? it also makes a decompressing noise after the heat turns off?

Screeching noise is generally a bearing in a motor going bad .. getting worn... it means that in a short time it will completely fail (short .. tomorrow or in a couple months is what can be expected) Decompression noise is normal ...

If it's a heat pump, in the winter they screech and swoooosh when they're on the defrost cycle. We have one and it makes horrible noises and nothing is wrong.

the decompression is the de-enegizing or energizing of the reversing valve.it's normal.
