  • I've read that stats show that non-Catholic ministers have just as high a rate of abuse. But, IMHO, sexuality is a powerful, primal drive, and probably extremely few people can really suppress it. Also, there's probably the factor in some priests that they joined because they're gay but in denial, and hope that a religious lifetyle will help them. (This'd be for the abusers of teenagers and such; gays in general are no more likely to be molesters of younger children than are straights.)
  • I think that this link should shed some light on your question. The statistics actually show more protestant ministers have problems with sexual abuse than catholic priests do.
