  • That is hard to say, could be a number of things. Best way to find out is have a mechanic take a look at it.
  • Sounds to me like you have a loose alternator belt. This would cause both the squeeling noise, and a low battery warning light when using the heater.
  • You serpentine belt may be lose. Check this by pressing down on the belt between the power steering pump and the air compressor. It should only move about 1/2". Any more and you will have to adjust it. Do this by loosening the three mounting bolts (13mm, 2 on the front, one one the back) on the power steering pump. after these are loose, look under the pump. You will see a very long bolt. This is the adjustment bolt to tighten/loosen the belt. Turn it either way to see what happens. Tighten it up until you get the 1/2" deflection. Now retighten the three mounting bolts. Now if the belt was tight, you will have to troubleshoot the alternator/battery. I believe Autozone will do this for free. If you have access to a voltmeter, you can check it on your own. First, with the car off, apply the voltmeter to the batter leads. It should read over 12VDC. With the Jeep cranked, it should be over 13.5VDC. If you are getting anything different from those values, it's probably the battery or alternator. Like I said, run it down to Autozone or another parts house and have them test it for free.
  • It's not clear from your question if this is a Grand Cherokee or Cherokee. For a Limited, it's probably a WJ and the problem sounds like a bad connector to the blower motor that is shorting out, drawing excessive current. Two things can cause this. 1) the connector on this model has a habit of "melting". Look for the connector under the passenger side dash and check for damage. 2) The re-circ door can break off and fall down into the fan, blocking the air flow and causing the fan motor to have to "suck" too hard to get air. This can also cause an over-current condition. Check the HeaterTreater re-circ door listing on Ebay for more diagnostic information, or go to the web site at www.heatertreater.net. cgallen
