  • Must be "the good book".
  • Contrary to popular belief, not all wisdom was created during the last 20 years.
  • Because they're either gullible or they had no choice in the matter and were brainwashed by over controlling parents.
  • Because there was a time when things were perfect until a poor decision was made by our parents. We are still experiencing the effects of poor management. Or feeling the ill effects of an ill cause; the allowing of sin to enter into reality.
  • Because there is comfort to be taken in unoriginality and comformity. Oh and the feeling of superiority over those who don't believe EXACTLY the same as you do seems to be fun for lots of people.
  • And which of the books are they reading. Koran, bible et al? And what version of them are you talking about?
  • Right or wrong, they feel that to date, it is the best guide for living their lives. Would you care to suggest a better newer one? Just because something is old does not necessarily mean it is no longer valid. If you have a problem with Christians, why not just come out and say it? It is perfectly ok to ask questions and make critisims, about Christianity and other religions.
  • I have no idea. Like the first answer I wash only a child and my parents were exactly what XOXMSperfect said over controlling brainswashing parents. They just brain wash you since your a kid at like 3 years old. If your told something to believe over and over and over again ever since your a kid you will most likely believe it. But mainly I think its because of the mysterious fact of Heaven or Hell after death because no one knows what is after death. And people feel that they are right. Who knows but when you ask a Christian this question they will simply say the same answer. Because God told some men what to write in that book with no proof they did write it. And they will also say that if you don't believe it then the Devil is making you not believe it just because they cannot prove it.
  • Because it coincidentally hates everything they hate, so they use it to justify their hate towards people who think differently than them.
  • Perhaps for the same reason people keep posting variants of this very question...
  • It's full of all the basic principles of how to lead a good life, with hope for the future.
  • Too many!
  • It is after all a book of rules; some outdated, some strange. But at the core it is a good guide. My question to you is which book do you use: Betty Crocker Pastry cookbook, Chilton's Yugo Repair Guide or Stamps for fun and profit?
  • Which book is that? It must be good if so many people like it? LOL. Because they are afraid to think for themselves.
  • I think fundamentalist religious people should just be classified as people with psychological dependencies or disorders, because any average person is capable of thinking for themselves. A good example is those people that protested funerals of dead soldiers and say things like "God hates fags". It's obvious they aren't firing on all cylinders.
  • I don't follow organized religion, but I don't think there's anything wrong with someone learning morality lessons from a book. I just wish that biblical Christians would read critically and observe where the Bible contradicts its own thesis. The Bible is a good source of general life principles, but it's not meant to be taken literally. Also, I don't see why people can't look to other books for inspiration on how live good moral lives. For instance, A Tale of Two Cities teaches about self-sacrifice. In answer to yoru question, people base their lives off of any religious text because they're lost and searching for direction in their lives. These people haven't developed morally to the point that they can make ethical decisions on their own (Kohlberg's theories about the stages of moral development will give you a lot of insight into fundamentalist religious behavior).
  • They were told to.
