  • It's just not a part of what they do. They appreciate the prayer but see no need to recite it all the time.
  • He gave it as an example, right before that He told when and where we should pray, then He showed us how to pray, not what to say. It's a formula to follow is all. We are taught the Lord's Prayer but not taught to actually recite it as a way to speak to GOD. It is also known as the Model Prayer which explains what I just said. You don't drive a model car, don't look like a super model, and you don't pray the model prayer.
  • Hyper-Dispensationalists (the people who put the capital F in fundamentalist - even though much of their theology is novel, schismatic, and heretical) divide salvation history into several distinct "dispensations," each with its own rules/terms of salvation. They contend that the Lord's Prayer was "pre-Cross!" and therefore does not belong to the current dispensation of grace, but the then current dispensation of works, and thus has no place in the current "Church Age" and has no application for Gentile Christians. ... ... Yes ... ... They're nuts.
  • We don't because it was spoken by Jesus before the church was established, when he said "thy kingdom come..." he was refering to the church. See Mark 9:1 and Acts 1:6-8 and acts 2:1-47. The coming kingdom was refering to the church.
  • Just before teaching the way to pray, Jesus said not to say the same things over and over again.(Mt6:7) In the model prayer at Mt 6:9-13 he taught us some very important things to pray about such as Gods named to be hallowed or sanctified, the need for Gods kingdom, Gods will to take place on earth as in heaven, our food, forgiveness, and to deliver us from temptation and the wicked one. The scriptures show us many other things about prayer and that are approriate to pray for, but not every prayer had to include everything.(Lk 11:13; Phil 4:6; 1Thes 5:17,18; Jas 1:6,7; 5:16; Heb 5:7) When Jesus was praying to the one that he called the only true God(Jn 17:1-26), he said many things, but not everything that he had said at Mt 6:9-13. We can pray standing (Mr 11:25), or kneeling (Lk 22:41). The main thing that we have to do is pray to God through Jesus name(Jn 16:23), and pray acording to Gods will(1Jn 5:14).
  • Interestingly, in the "the Lord's Prayer", (Matthew 6), Jesus was not actually praying,... ,...he was instructing his disciples on HOW to pray. - Here's a quick look at the context. - Matt.6:5-9"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,... The entire 17th chapter of John consists of a personal prayer of Jesus to his Father. It is noteworthy that he did not recite the words recorded in Matthew.
