  • I believe the Eight Holidays represent transits or stages in the God's journey, which is the journey of incarnation and rational consciousness; and that, in this progression, Ostara represents the awakening to the existence of the spiritual side of life, mythically represented in the meeting of the Goddess by the God and his beginning courtship of her. Beltane, their union, is our initiation into spiritual life; and Litha, their afterglow, is the blessings that follow that initiation. Thus, I imagine courtship plays would be appropriate at Ostara; for a solitary practitioner, perhaps reading a good courtship story. I have recently come to the conclusion that the Eight Holidays are more Pagan than Wiccan in nature. I have seen enough to conclude, operationally, that the term "Sabbat" historically referred to the Full Moon rites, not the Quarter and Cross-Quarter days. This doesn't mean that these days are insignificant or unimportant; but Witchcraft is a subset of Paganism, and its emphasis, I think, is lunar, without disregarding the solar. Although the solar cycle has its inner court aspects - as does everything - I think that it is principally an outer court experience.
