  • There's something vaguely insane about trying to have "laws" regarding war. Warfare is anti-civilization, it's like making laws about hurricanes, almost. From a moral standpoint, most of what happens in wartime is immoral. If the combatants cared about morality, most of the time they would stand down and go back to their corners. However, for those few cases where a cause is just, the nation which is operating with just cause has an obligation to itself and to the world to try to minimize civilian casualties, obviously. Making it a "law" when there is no enforcing body seems rather dubious from a logical standpoint.

  • Some combatants do consider civilian casualties. But what about those that don't? What do you do to combatants that won't wear a uniform? Do you give them that protection anyway?
