On average 100 people choke to death each year on ball point pens. Have you ever choked on anything that required the Heimlich maneuver ? or had to use it someone else?

I have never choked on anything in my life but I gave a woman the Heimlich maneuver about three years ago in a diner who was choking on a chicken bone.

Danm! How do you choke on a ball point pen??? I've never had to have it done for me but I've done it several times including once that may have saved my daughter's life.

Never had the Heimlich maneuver, but when I was in high school, I was lying on the floor with an open book in front of me doing homework. I had a ball point pen in my hand, the pen had a button that you would push in to retract the refill, then you would slide the button down to get the point and refill to drop. I kept hitting the button with my teeth, then would slide the button, my mother walked in the room just in time to see the top of the pen and refill fly out of the pen and down my throat. She picked me up by my ankles and the refill shot out. I wasn't really aware I was doing it, just absorbed in studying and lucky she walked in just at that moment.

When my son was little, maybe 3 or 4, (my middle child, Jace) we were on our way to the store, I was a passenger and my hubby was driving. I looked back to see my son's little face purple as can be! I screamed at my husband to stop the car and in seconds I had him out of his car seat and in the front seat with me. When we stopped on the side of the road I leaped out of the car with Jace in my arms and started the Heimlich Maneuver. It took just a few lunges and out came a Lifesaver! (Ironic, I know!) My older son had given Jace a Lifesaver! When all was over with and his face was rosy red again I talked to Logan about giving Jace candy that could choke him and we went on our way to the store. :o)Jace was just fine.
