  • La big mac..lol..i dont know?
  • Because they're idiots for the most part. - Not the French, the people who make fun of them. @_@ I probably should of clarfyed that first... Rate me down if you wish, but know that this is what I've observed through my 14 years of living in this country.
  • It is not just the US, the British do to. I think alot of it has to do with their military & political past and present. (I am not advocating it, just stating it). Some believe that France waffles too easily between ally and adversary (politically). There is also a perceived lack of appreciation for what other countries have done for them (the idea that they are ungrateful for assistance when they have been in need). edited to correct a typo :o)
  • I live in the U.S. and I personally don't know any people who make fun of the French. Me and my friends just usually make fun of each other. Some people do it jokingly and maybe some do it maliciously. If they do it maliciously that just shows their ignorance.
  • I think the French are just an easy target because they are a former world power. They have a very colorful national history and are responsible for many modern technologies. Originally settled by the Franks aftered the fall of the Roman Empire. The Roman catholic Church continued to have a huge impact on French culture and history. Many influential figures including Charlemagne (often cited as "The Father Of Europe"), Joan Of Arc, and Napolean Bonaparte were all from the land that makes up modern-day France. Unfortunately, religion and wars slowly eroded their position of power. To be more specific the Roman Catholic Church and the struggle with the Protestant Reformers, The French Revolution, WWI & WWII. Today, there are still many huge companies based in France including Lancôme, L'Oréal, Perrier sparkling mineral water, Ubisoft (video game makers), Vivendi, and many more. Paris, France is a huge tourist destination for romantic vacations. I have never been to France, but we need to be a little more objective about such a subjective question.
  • I believe it is for the very same reason that people make fun of the US so much. They are both isolationist societies.
  • Im in Canada and our french citizens actually want to separate their province from the rest of the country. Even though the rest of the entire country of Canada has made french a part of the culture. Even though way out west there are very little french speaking people we must have french and english on ALL labels in all grocery stores across Canada. We have french taught in schools it is mandatory, not an option. Our government is very fair, with the french public we even elected a frech prime minister. And still it is not enough. As a general society the french public seem to be needy, whiney and rather "babyish" when it comes to them not getting what they want. What type of respect will that earn you as a citizen?
  • south park makes fun of the french alot
  • I can assure you that the English give the French a harder time verbally than the US do. They have been close neighbours and adversaries for over 1000 years.
  • France is an extraordinary country and sticks out, so it's an easy target. Often is said: "we like France, except for the French." I make fun of the French too, but then again I make fun of everything and anyone including myself. (Netherlands)
  • Could be jealousy over how beautiful and unique a country France is. I think it is mostly because of the snobbery of many of the French citizens, though. I have been there, and unless you speak French, and address them the way they want to be addressed, they completely ignore you. The closer into an urban area you get, the worse it gets. That said, if you do try to fit in, they often give you the benefit of the doubt. I am from the US, and we also don't appreciate those who can't speak our language. Maybe France has something there, lol.
  • No, its not just us, its them.
  • The ones I know that do make fun of thw French, have lived with the French or in France. According to them, French people are "stuck up" and arent a fan of, well, anyone who isn't French. While you can't judge a whole group of people by the small amount you met, if you live there and *still* come out with that idea after living thre, there may be some truth to that. The tiny amount of French people I've met seemed friendly only to eachother. From personal exprience, they did act snotty and tend to seperate themselve from everyone else, and acted as if everything from France was one-of-a kinf (no problem with that, but I would see the same things they had in the local mall). After forcing a few to talk, they loosened up and acted just as trashy as everyone else.
