  • I lived for several years in southern Connecticut and then went to college in Philadelphia. The area is beautiful and there's no better place to be in the fall, if you ask me. The winters can be harsh and cold -- the kind of cold that makes you want to cry -- but the snow is pretty. My only complaint with New England, and I realize this is a generalization, is that to me it feels cramped, is very, very expensive and the people move way too fast. Good luck on getting out there. It's a beautiful part of the world with rich history.
  • Good for you for being enamored of the area! I have lived in New Hampshire my whole life and I love it. Sure, I am ready for a change (I'm going to eventually move to North Carolina), but I will come back to live in my home state at some point, I'm sure. It's awfully beautiful up here. Maine has a beautiful coast and New Hampshire has some gorgeous mountains. Vermont is just downright pretty, and when most people think of quintissential New England towns and places they're thinking of Vermont. Massachusetts and Connecticut both offer more city-like amenities, although New Hampshire has also started to develop a rather urban feel in the southern half of the state. None of the states are lacking in cultural activities. If you are saving up money to come to visit, I would strongly recommend getting up to the Lakes Region of central New Hampshire and the White Mountains. In my opinion, some of the best scenery to be had is in that area...and if you like outdoor activities you will be right at home. Some notable towns in New England that are picturesque and deserve mention: Center Sandwich, NH Fitzwilliam, NH Petersham, MA I'll update this list as I think of more. :-)
