  • I've done that... it's because you're crocheting on top of your original stitch. That will give you a spiral for sure. Do this instead. Chain a small circle (5 ch should do it, more if you want an open circle or fewer stitches if you want it tight). Make a loop by slip stitching (sst) to the first chain. Chain 3 more than the value of whatever stitch you're doing (2 for sc, 3 for dc, 4 for tc). This chain becomes your first "stitch". Do your dc (or whatever stitch) into the loop you made. Continue with the same stitch all around the loop until you come up to where your first chain comes out. Now slip-stitch into the second-to-top chain. You now have a perfect circle. To make more rings in the circle, for the second ring make two stitches in each one. For the third ring do just one stitch in the top of each stitch, but make it a bigger stitch and put a chain between each stitch.
