More than 8 hours.

For me, it depends. If I choose to drive as part of the experience, it is a road trip. For example, I had to drive 50 miles for a training seminar...not a road trip. But when I go on a picnic at a winery in the same vicinity on a beautiful day with the windows down, the sunroof open and the wind blowing in my hair...it becomes a road trip. When a friend moved to Portland from St. Louis and when I moved from Tampa to St Louis, I chose to create experiences...because the stuff was shipped...the cars could have been shipped too...but with a friend and plans for sightseeing, camping, hiking and whitewater rafting the necessity to get her to Portland and me to St. Louis became road trips.

A VERY long sunrise to sunset day or an overnight stay certainly qualifies...
-
Depends on how much fun you have on the way.
-
Another town.
-
I took a 28yr.road trip.I averaged 125,000 mi/yr.(long haul trucker) Anything less than 1000 mi.is just a short trip.
-
I consider a road trip to be a trip that has you staying overnight at someplace other than your home. Mileage isn't to big a factor, except that it probably wouldn't be close to home.
-
To the road;then trip (road trip)
-
For me... just going for a drive to let go and just for the pure enjoyment of it, anywhere, regardless of miles, can be considered a road trip. Heck, a ride down to the local supermarket is a road trip if you have a good time on it contemplating and listening to music full blast and hanging your head outside the window so your hair streams out...
-
I would have to say at least 100 miles.
-
If you've an imagination and perhaps a tasty buzz, you don't gotta leave the garage! Dig? ;-)
-
100+ miles.
-
If it takes more than a day's travel
-
well I go to the Jersey shore for day trips sometimes, which is about 90 miles so I would say over 100
-
One mile.
-
As far as I want to.
-
At least three hours away.
-
Each person is different and road conditions make the difference. Traveling 30 miles on a dirt back road, is entirely different than traveling on the insterstate. I consider anything over 30 miles, one way, as a road trip.
-
how about 17 hrs? I'm driving 17 hrs labor day weekend :)
-
Great question. I would say a road trip is when you travel far enough to need to stay overnight somewhere before you continue.
-
I agree with Mrs Cleaver, I think for it to be a road trip and not just a journey it would need to include at least one overnight stay before continuing.
-
For my family we never leave our city, so a road trip for us would be at least a 4 hour drive.
-
I went to Iowa for a family reunion and back in one day. I did not stay overnight, however, I drove over 450 miles. I consider that a pretty good road trip.
-
Road trips are not determined by the distance but by the purpose.
-
For me about 10 miles.
-
I would think the length of time involved would be more determinative than the distance. I would say anything more than a week would definitely be a road trip.
