"He showered her with gifts." "He was green with envy." Analogy means "proportion" and so only some characteristics or meanings are imposed from one thing to another. It implies that if two things share some characteristics, they likely share others. Examples: "Fire is to hot as ice is to cold." "Water is to liquid as ice is to solid." Analogy is partial whereas metaphor is total.
