Gross or net income does it really matter it's there interpretation. You need to take a look at the ancient rule of tithing. http://www.biblestudy.org/bibleref/tithe-in-bible/table-of-contents.html

It is up to the individual to decide what is an honest tithe.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles The Lord reaffirmed that law in modern revelation, commanding his people to pay “one-tenth of all their interest annually” and declaring that “this shall be a standing law unto them forever” (D&C 119:4). … In the Lord’s commandment to the people of this day, tithing is “ ‘one-tenth of all their interest annually,’ which is understood to mean income.” The First Presidency has said, “No one is justified in making any other statement than this” (First Presidency letter, 19 Mar. 1970, quoted in the General Handbook of Instructions, 1989, p. 9-1; see also D&C 119) Ensign magazine May 1994 http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=10c3425e0848b010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____ - For a merchant, buying products, and selling them for a small markup, there is a clear difference between Interest and Income. For most of us, our Interest and Income are virtually identical. It is left to the individual to decide what portion of his Income is Interest, and to pay tithing accordingly. If you really have a problem deciding what is a full tith for you, pray about it. And listen to the answer. - By the way, Tithing Settlement is to insure that the record of tithing payed is complete and accurate for the year, and that is all that goes in to the records.

Nothing is specifically stated as to tithing being on gross or net income. Some believe that it is meant to be on gross income and some pay tithing on net income. . The only official statement we have is as follows: . "The simplest statement we know of is the statement of the Lord himself, namely, that the members of the Church should pay 'one-tenth of all their interest annually', which is understood to mean income. No one is justified in making any other statement than this." (First Presidency letter, Mar. 19, 1970; see also D&C 119:2). . This is the statement that is found in the Church Handbook of Instructions 2006. If you understand 'all... income anually' to mean gross income then you pay on gross income. If you understand 'all... income anually' to mean the income that you recieve and not income paid in taxes before you recieve your share then you pay on net income.

Whenever a religion starts trying to dictate or control money, that is not a religion.

I have to admit, I have been looking for sources to document an answer for the last 30 minutes and cannot find anything substantial beyond the scripture you already quoted. I have always (well, almost always :))paid my tithing based on my net because that is what I consider "increase". . As for the official answer with sources... you got me! - ;)

I have a problem giving money to any church that tells me there isn't a paid position then uses membership money to buy for profit businesses. As said by the church president these businesses produce a 600 million dollar profit. This tells me that the church is using God for their own personnel gain This put's them in a category of big business (tax free) and cheating people out of their money, this clearly isn't what God say. I haven't a think against the members but why don't you guys see this http://www.exmormon.org/mormon/mormon410.htm http://www.exmormon.org/mormon/mormon392.htm If they used my money and the other members money to make themselves rich while as (as I read) they want to get fed before you feed you're kids to me this is outrageous. Can't imagine what God would be thinking about this. But again your past president has said our God isn't the God of the bible? How did they brainwash you to the point you're afraid to ask questions.

Tithing Settlement is a time to reconcile that the ward's records of your donations match your own. The bishop asks each member to declare their own tithing status in most cases (if an individual fails to show up, the bishop must declare it himself; also, there is a rare "exempt" status). The bishop does NOT ask if tithing was on gross or net. Within a few weeks, the member receives an official receipt which includes total of all donations, plus an indication of how much of that is tax deductible. * This tithing settlement is not used for temple recommend interviews *
