Old mothers natures way of saying, in order to fully appreciate the good weather I have to give you a taste of the bad.
The bad months make us appreciate the good months that much more!
Some people are affected by the shorter days as in fewer hours of daylight. SAD - seasonal affective disorder is fairly well known to actually cause a chemical inbalance in some. Less suslight and cold which causes many people to curtail whatever exercise and less social interaction is very hard for some to deal with. Colder days also causes many to tense up making their muscles and joints sore plus more time indoors expouses you to more of other peoples germs. So with all of that it really amazing that anyone makes it to spring - but I'll bet you do. +5 - feel better?
because thats the way the world turns, literally. you could always move across the world to Australia and enjoy summer during our winter seasons :)
because Will Smith is black.
You describe what we humans make of cycles of nature. Under the coat of ice and snow our lovely spring landscapes are sleeping ...they just can't wait till the sun shines warmer and the seeds come to life. What would it be like without any seasons - boring?
Maybe people should be hibernating with the bears.
I find this year very depressing, too much snow and cold. Guess it's just a fact of life in the northeast and there's no escaping it unless we want to pack up and move.
I have no idea but I am sick of the snow!! Hey sm00z I was just thinking I hadn't seen you for a while...how are you?
With some exceptions as stated elsewhere, the depression you refer to is an attitude that many people choose to adapt.
My birthday is in January, and it makes me very happy, all my Hubby's family has their birthday in February, so we have a huge birthday blast in February, and everybody is happy.

I'm up in Canada, and I know EXACTLY how you feel! :/
Can't wait until Spring!
It's not that depressing. You get used to the cold. Once March comes around (remember Feburary is only 28 days) it's like a warm weather reunion.
come visit me in Australia!
Its boiling over here at the moment, in a heat wave, been like 45 deg C for the last week and a half!! phhewwwf hot!
i think winter is the best time of year, i wish we had snow down here!
Why is it cold is what you are asking? lol
Dec/Jan/Feb/March all suck. Too cold. You just have to remember it will be warm again.
Speak for yourself my friend. Jim and I think January and February are beautiful. We don't like hot weather..we think triple-digit temperatures week after week are depressing with all the extreme heat and discomfort they bring with them. Different strokes...:)
The only good thing is february is so short!
The wether is bad for the elderly & sick. Therefore many people pass away. sort of a time for mourning.
Living here in SoCal, where the sun always shines, we have to read about that in newspapers and library books, but I think it's because of the lesser amount of light during the winter months.

You're reading Why is it that January and February have to be so depressing with all the cold weather and snow that they bring to the northern latitudes?

Thanks, my good friend.
Old Ma Nature certainly has paid me back big time after three mild winters in a row.

I'm probably doing fair to okay. I've been involved with a lot of genealogy research and trying to rectify some issues with Turbo Tax and the IRS lately. If I can get a few monkeys off my back, I will be doing great.
I hope you are doing well, Wanbil, my friend.:)
