Maybe because you dont want to feel the pain of whatever you may die from. All livings come to and end to make space for another, if we did'nt die the world would be so full! lol and then we would probably be living under the sea :P it's a cycle and we all die in the end

If you simply die and that’s it... what is the point of it all? Where is the Justice for the choices you made in life? I would argue that if you believed in the afterlife and you were a moral person, you would probably be less afraid of death. We often fear the unknown. Could it be that you are not certain that when you die you will simply turn into fertiliser? Souljahlistikz has a very good point. Perhaps it is not the death you are afraid of but the method of dying?

Because any species of life that was OK about dieing would soon "die out", you are hard coded at the most basic level to survive, the "fear" is one way your genes are "motivating" you to stay alive for as long as possible. By the way belief in God is as irrational as belief in Father Christmas or faries or unicorns or the tooth fairy it has nothing to do with how you feel about wanting to live!

Is it death, or the dying process that makes you afraid? I know that the thought of dying in your sleep is a whole lot more comforting than something more traumatic. I like this Woody Allen quote - ""It's not that I'm afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens."
-
What you are experiencing with these emotions is a "fear of the unknown". It is quite normal, as every humanbeing on the face of the planet fears the unknown beyond our own passing. Remember that fear is just a chemical reaction of the brain brought on by concious thought process'. These are moods that can be disciplined into more positive things and brought more into focus. You feel that you do not believe in God, but you fear the unknown, the what if's, etc. etc. Either consioiusly or subconsiously they are there to haunt and disturb you... because you allow them to. Focus more on the positive aspects of your life, and worry not about death, when it comes, it will be the least of your worry's.
-
quite simply you don't want your existance to come to an end and it is natural to be afraid whether you believe in the afterlife or not. Fear of the unknown and any pain that may be involved with the dying process.

Because you enjoy your life?

I think it's the fear of the unknown and also a subconscious feqar that you may be wrong. If you read some info on people's experiences about near death then it may enlighten you. Don't be afraid.Be a good person and go on your spiritual journey for the answer will be found there...inside you...all spiritual fourneys will lead you to find answers in that little voice that prompts you to do nice things for others.Listen to that voice.

I guess its the fear of not knowing. Theres so many theories in the world, Gods etc. Even though you dont believe, you might sub-consciously be taking all these different theories into consideration. Dont worry about it, we all come into the world and we dont choose to, we all have to go out of the world and we dont get to choose when either.

You are afraid to die because you believe you will no longer exist. No more thoughts, dreams, feelings, sensations, anything. It will be as if you never were. When one believes there is something else, dying is not as scary to imagine.

The dwellers of Paradise will say in the Hereafter (as Allah (God) reveals in the Noble Quran) : [50] Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. [51] A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), [52] Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). [53] "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" [54] (The speaker) said: "Will you look down?" [55] So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. [56] He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. [57] "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." [The Noble Quran 37:50-57] Also, Allah (God) talks about you and those who disbelieve like you: [23] Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember? [24] And they say: "There is nothing but our life of this world, we die and we live and nothing destroys us except Ad-Dahr (the time). And they have no knowledge of it: they only conjecture. [25] And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, their argument is no other than that they say: "Bring back our (dead) fathers, if you are truthful!" [26] Say (to them): "Allah gives you life, then causes you to die, then He will assemble you on the Day of Resurrection about which there is no doubt. But most of mankind know not." [27] And to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. And on the Day that the Hour will be established, on that Day the followers of falsehood (polytheists, disbelievers, worshippers of false deities) shall lose (everything). [The Noble Quran 45: 23-27]
