  • Actually Christ warned us that many people will hate us for the sake of Him. Believing usually makes people accept you less rather than more. It does, however, make God accept you more. God woos us, and sometimes when we have feelings like that, it is because He is softening our heart. It isn't that He wants us to feel bad, its that He wants us to turn toward Him. He doesn't want you to come to some phony, put on belief that doesn't come from your heart, but He does want you to start asking questions. If you ask Him, He will lead you to the answers. And when you get those answers, you won't come to a phony belief, you'll come to a deep and abiding faith.
  • I think that that is very common. Just because you dont believe in GOD per say doesnt mean that you dont believe in a higher power. I am not religious but it doesnt mean im not spiritual and if someone doesnt accept me for it that so be it.
  • Being religious simply to "fit in" is wrong to both theists and atheists. As for feeling bad, it's like dropping any addiction. There will be side effects. Religion is still very common so it's not likely you'll stumble into an atheistic area. What you will find is some people are more tolerant of free thinkers than others.
  • It's due to insecurity, low self esteem and alienation. A good psychologist or therapist could help you let go of this.
  • All are religious in some way. All have a position and a belief about God, whether it be that they ignore and/or reject the concept of God, they view themselves as a god, or worship the true God with their whole soul. Religion, while a beacon of hope, is a prison to many, and one that jades millions, due to a misrepresentation of faith. Break through religion. Find faith. And you will find Jesus. Worship Him and live.
  • I don't think social acceptance is a reason to believe or disbelieve. Perhaps addressing your insecurity will help more than religion/atheism at this point.
  • The belive in god make people closer, it always was like it and it will always be. its not worng to fell like thet - its a basic instinct. some times people fink if some one believe in god he can't be a bad person so they get him more easly. but look the Italian very religious and yet very dangures. hope i helped. by the way, i am jew and not very religious so i might not fully get you.
  • religion is a way of life.it is better for you that u should follow to any prophit.follow yourself is not good.
  • I will respect you more and more, if you believe in GOD.
  • We have a God-sized hole in our hearts that only He can fill. When we say No to His occupancy we feel bad as we should. As for acceptance, James 1 tells the believer not to be men-pleasers. Please God and let the rest of the cards fall where they may. When He's shining down on you, people will either embrace you or run like heck. We need you in the faith! :)
  • You probably feel guilty because you've been conditioned to be religious, and you're having a hard time breaking away from that. It is true that you'll probably be more accepted by people in general if you're a believer, but there are groups and communities where it's acceptable to have no religious affiliation. You just have to find like-minded people. You shouldn't be intellectually dishonest with yourself about your belief in God just to fit in with others. Pretending to be someone you're not will only hurt you more. You'll feel empty inside because you'll know that people aren't accepting you for who you really are. And if they don't want to accept you, remember that it's their personal issue, not yours.
