  • We all get cheated out of something. Some older folks get cheated out of having grandchildren, or even family at all. Some folks will never hear "I love you Grandma." I have an aunt whose only son died at 32 with no children. She has more empty nest pleasures than she can stand.
  • first, accept that what you are feeling is very normal, and it is ok to feel this way. you have been robbed of the ease of retirement. second, count the many joys your beautiful grandchildren bring to your life. and give yourself much earned credit for saving the lives of two children. I work with law enforcement and meet many grandparents in your situation. Unforetunately, I also meet the ones who dont have wonderful or present grandparents; i often meet those kids at the medical examiners office, after its too late. I also see them in neglectful, drug home, not eating and living in filth. God bless you for your efforts and all my respect to you, for you deserve it. and a hug too, cuz im sure you could use it.
  • You need time for just you. Try to find some time each week where you could maybe take yoga or even just sitting and reading at a coffe shop to unwind. Do you have any other relatives that they could be with once in a while to lighten your load a little bit? Don't put so much on your own shoulders and let others help you.
  • You must feel that you are lucky to enjoy the warmth of a good family. Be happy that many others are denied of the pleasures of raising grand children. After all Life is a chain of experiences, enjoy them. Happiness and Sadness are just state of mind. Accept them without emotional effect.
