If you haven't already read him, try Tom Robbins. He wrote "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" but all of his stuff is humorous and out there.

Good call on Robbins. I'm reading Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates right now and it's fantastic. Vonnegut is terrific if you're not versed with him. I'd suggest Cat's Cradle or Slaughterhouse-5. Going way back try The Castle by Franz Kafka if you haven't already.
