My step-brother went from Graham to Jade, although he was very mixed up at the time so I don't know if he legally did change his name, or just said he did to annoy his dad.

I had a coworker do it, from Nunes to something else. He changed it to his maternal grandfather's name because that's who really raised him. It was a drawn out process and had to be announced in three newspapers in case anyone objects. Strangely anyone who objects has the power to stop it! I have no idea why. He was only worried about his father trying to stop it so he put it in three newspapers that he knows his father doesn't read. This is in California.

Yes my sister has changed her name on more than one occasion. In fact I think all three of them have changed their names after being divorced.
-
I changed mine. I was born with a name that could go either way, male or female, and I didn't like having to clarify my gender. So I swapped it for one that leaves no doubt.

My name was Robin. Nothing against the name, but it didn't fit me. I'm a girly-girl and didn't like having the question come up. I had a male classmate named Robin, and think of all the famous Robins you can name: Robin Givens is the only female I can come up with. The rest--Williams, Leach, Hood, the Boy Wonder, whatever--are all male. Besides that I was always being asked where Batman is, or shouldn't I go home to my nest, or are my breasts red. I changed to Raya, which my mother helped me pick out, so she doesn't feel so bad about me not keeping the name she gave me in the first place. Raya is pronounced like Ryan without the N, Mariah without the Ma... It is a feminine form of my grandfather's name, so the rest of the family doesn't feel rejected either. It sounds exotic, it's unusual, and nobody ever hears Raya and wonders whether I'm male or female.

I don't know what it was prior but I worked with a guy years ago that legally had his name changed to Yul B Sweet. He was very secretive of what it was prior to the name change.

My mom used to watch Rosie O'Donnell's show. (my mom's not the brightest crayon in the box) I remember there being a chick on there who had her name legally changed to Obi-wan Kenobi. That's the only one I know... ^_^

I am 30 years old and for the past ten years my father has been the most hateful person I've ever encountered. He thinks I'm a genetic mistake because I'm gay and he goes out of his way to make me feel like there is something wrong with me..He is also completely prejudice and didn't even attend my sisters memorial because she was gay. My first name is his middle name and for the last 10 years I've wanted to change it because I don't want the link from him to me. He stopped treating me like his son a very long time ago and I have finally decided to change my name just so mine doesn't have anything to do with him. I'm not so concerned with changing my last name because my mom has kept his name even though they are divorced over 20 years now and all of my siblings also have the same last name. Some say it's crazy but when you live everyday knowing that your name is to carry on your fathers first or middle to honor him, I don't feel like I have a father and I prefer to not have my name associated with his.

thought about it but never did'

Nope. Not yet..I think I should add Ducky to my last name.

When you get married you can change your name to whatever you want, first, middle, and last! Most people don't know that. My daughter changed her name. We adopted her when she was 4 and she changed all 3 of her names, she got to pick out her 1st and middle names.

I have a maiden name. I still use my ex-husbands name because we have children.
-
Nope. It has been like that since birth. I've recently changed my AB username though, from THE TROLL to Doggie S
