Yes, one gives the same answer each time. The proper response is "Fine, and you?" since you are only exchanging pleasantries, and not medical histories.

I asked a co-worker, the other day, how her weekend went. She replied, "It sucked!" Turned out to be a way of gauging how to interact with her throughout the morning. Later on she apologized for the frank answer; but it was appreciated. :)
