Help answer this question below.
I would pull the power cord out and remove the battery (no power reduces the risk of damage). Then I would try to pour as much out as I could and dry it off. If the liquid was salty or sugary, I would use a slightly damp cloth to try to remove any residue. Of course, the entire time while doing this, I would be swearing a blue streak. Finally, I would let the laptop sit until I was absolutely positive it had dried out completely before even trying to start it up again.
I have had this happen before, and it's not a very good reaction.
I attempt to turn over the laptop and let it drip out as much as possible, while swearing, and looking around the room in a panicked state for anything that can absorb liquid. Be it dirty sock, used tissue, anything. Then I take the liquid-absorber and heavily wipe down the computer, not really taking into consideration, I am probably just making it worse by doing so. After this, I do everything in my power to see if it is functioning correctly, and if not, I just re-do what I did 5 minutes ago, like it is actually going to work. Then when it doesn't work, I begin to frantically pace around the room, walking in circles, and calling up friends to tell them I just ruined the lap-top... Not that they are going to know what to do, but I always do this when I get worried over something. Then I sit down, and rationally think of a good excuse to convince myself of why I I ruined the computer.
Luckily, in my situation, I ended up having it fixed, somehow. Good thing, because it wasn't even mine to begin with. =0
I turned mine upside down and prayed it wasn't permanently damaged.
I would yell an extrem amount of curses before calmly try to clean it up and checking to see if it still works.
I would tip it up-side down so that it would drain the keyboard and then wipe up the key-pads and hope that it didnt actually get into the computer.
My first reaction would be to curse loudly. I'd probably make up a few new words just because I'm southern and I have a God given birth right to butcher the hell out of the English language. Then I'd try to clean it up and save it. If unsalvageable, I'd go back to making up new words.
The last time, after the initial panic, I turned it upside down to let the liquid drain out. Then I started cleaning like fury. It was fine.
in all reality you shouldn't have any liquids near your laptop or computer in the first place. #1 rule!
Turn it off immediately and unplug it. Dump out or mop up any excess liquid. Let it dry completely. See if it still works. If not then be prepared to pay for a new one as it's not covered under warranty and a good technician can spot that kind of damage.
Sweet…I get a new laptop. I have accidental damage protection until March 2009 so if I do anything stupid like that HP will replace it.
I would swear, wipe it up and get a catalog for another...if it were unrepairable.
I would immediately invert it.
My immediate reaction was to flip the computer over and let the liquid come out the keyboard rather than soak into the motherboard. =)
I just clenched my glass that much tighter when I read this question.
I would immediately pull out the power source(s) and turn it upside down. Wipe up as much as I could and set it by some fans to hopefully blow the moisture out of it. Wait two painful days and hope it turns on.
after several explatives i would do the same thing alot have said, turn the keyboard upside down in hopes it would dry out
A few swear words and a mad rush for paper towels.
swear and run for a towel.
First I would say an expletive, and then I would grab just about anything near by to dry it fast, such as a blanket, papers, the shirt off my back, or the cat.
for some reason i know i would stand up. that is always the first thing i do when i spill something.
strange i know
That happened to me, and all I said was "hmm, that is a bummer". I have since bought a keyboard cover and it works great.
open it fully and flip it upside down, remove the battery and make sure the fluid didnt get that far. after that just let it dry out remove the kay board and clean it, should work fine if the motherboard stayed dry.
deftly turn it upside down with thescreen pushed all the way back and leave it for about a day with the battery and power supply removed then turn it over and clean it off.
if you do it quick enough the liquid doesnt have time to get inside and just runs back out when you turn it upside down, leaving you with a rather sticky but working laptop.
i have seen many laptops get a total soaking and survive but in allmost ALL cases no one attempted to boot the laptop before it was dry. turning it on with water inside is almost ALWAYS fatal.
with severe drownings i have disassembled laptops and left all parts to dry seperately then cleaned any residues i can find with cotton buds, with this id say ive had about 60% success rate.
Yelling "sh*************t!". Then trying to clean it up as quick as possible.
quickly grab a paper towel before it sinks into the keyboard
Stand up and shake it free of liquid, drying it off
I would cry giant sincere tears.
While sobbing my lil heart out I would try to clean up the mess. Q-Tips dipped in alcohol, the whole nine yards.
I DID spill a Frostie (from Wendy's) in my laptop. It was very ugly. I still need to go get it fixed, in the process of trying to clean it, I knocked off about five keys off the keyboard that I couldn't get back on (and now have lost) plus about half the keys stick and/or type a different letter than I'm aiming for.
Eventually I shut the lid and set it far far away from me. I DO need to get it fixed, though. What a tragedy!
I would ask if the warranty coveres that!
Pull the plug and take out the battery before something short-circuits.
well iwoud dry it of if didnt work i woud run awy cause its not mine
I'd be like: " WOAHHH!! When did I get this laptop?!?!?"
Edit:seems this was already posted by someone else.......next time I guess I will read ALL the answers before giving mine.....
OH F*@#^&$^&
And then I'd calmly assess the situation
Turn it upside down. Mind I did this by accident once to my SO's work laptop with all his work on it, eh... the screen went black I thought it was the end. I turned it upside down after a few seconds, then dried it with a hairdryer running on low... and it survived! it was a full cup of coffee. But I heard it's worse if it is coke or something surgary.
Get it upside down and turned off. The vaudeville cursing and swearing part is optional. Holding in the power button for 5 seconds should do it. Then you can take out the battery and proceed with a wipedown. Laptop designers have forseen you doing this and have prepared as best they can. Leave it to dry for 24 hours before you put the battery back in. If you open the CD ROM drive and it's all dry and happy crinkly, you should be good to go.
Oh my! Get the doctor! Code Orange! Code Orange! We must get him in a chemical bath! stat! Oh it isn't working sir! Get the plunger! (swosh, swosh) It isn't working! Get the vacuum! (Vroom!) We managed to take off his body. Clean insides! That was supposed to be a Code Coke!
Turn the Laptop upside down and the air blue.
I agree that you should hold it upside down to drain it and prevent further harm to your computer, but I would also add that you should remove anything that will come out of it to protect those parts. Don't turn it on again until you are sure it's dry. I hope your computer is ok. Also, I would probably cry. Lol
I have, I turned it upside down after turning it off . . . than took a hair dryer to it.
I'd probably swear some words, then do my best to wipe up all the liquid while swearing that I'm such a clumsy person!
Angry with myself, but i would not let it get to me - my files are hosted on the server, so i have lost nothing irretreivable.
Turn it over.
Turn it off.
Pray...
Pick it up and throw it! Then after all the keys have spilled all over the floor get a towel and wipe down all the little dribbles and puddles that are now completely visible.
i would yell "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo!" TT.TT. then when i was done i would put the keybored upside down on a towel and pat it saying "please, please, please, please".
I'D PLAY IT OFF AND ACT LIKE I MEANT TO DO THAT.
Immediate? Hmmm. . .that would be the verbal component. Yeah, I'm sorry. .. even AB has its limits on foul language I'd imagine. And then there are those words and phrases that are never even invented until you need them. + to your question though! :)
About two years ago I spilled half a bottle of vodka on my laptop... and I hadent even started drinking. I was just in complete shock. I tipped the laptop on its side so the vodka would come out. I turned it off, and then hair dryed it in the hopw that this would dry up any vodka that I couldnt get out.
It took about 3 days for my laptop to sober-up. Shes doing just fine now. Thank god.
I've had three laptops that I've done this to. All three, we've been able to "fix". With all three times I've done so, I freaked out (now there's a law in our household: If I have my laptop, no liquids allowed near by). I learned from the first one - I turned them off, turned it over. I then took towels and a pillow and put it face down on the towel so the liquid could drain. In a couple of days, I'd have to bring it into get it repaired (new keyboard), but with all three, nothing was damaged internally (thank GOD!). Although, with all three...my first reaction (because the liquid I spilled into them was usually soda) was to run to the sink...then I'd realize..."Uh, this might not me a good idea..."
i'd sit, not believing it actually happened for a moment, then throw a huge tantrum and scream profanities, then hopefully realize no damage was actually done
This actually happened to me about a month ago.
(I spilled a full glass of white wine.)
I was irritated that happened and especially when I noticed wine pouring out of the side. My immediate reaction was, ARRRG!!! because I thought I lost my itunes--that was my biggest fear...lol, because I've spent more on itunes than the computer.
What to do if this happens:
My bf told me to remove the battery and unplug it. My Uncle took my laptop apart and we cleaned it with distilled water. It sat "drying" for a few days and it works now. You just have to act fast and everything will be alright.
:D
"Oh Fuck" *sobs* lol then i would probably throw my laptop across the floor and have a fitt or something.
If I spilled a whole beverage in there, I'd immediately go shopping for another laptop. Save your old laptop's hard drive and transfer the info to your new laptop.

That's what I'd do, right after the F-bomb! ;-)
by Jessicax23 on January 28th, 2007
Oh yeah! This would definitely be a multiple F-bomb situation!

This one works. If you are comfortable you might pull the keyboard and clean with alcohol. Leave it over night or longer to dry before you turn it back on.

If this had to happen to me (which has never happened), I would call the cardiologist, sever heart attack, and call the computer store (another Apple Macbook Pro) and call the bank (a R25 000 loan)...

I would scream !! I pull my Chair back before I drink. I never put a cup on the Computer Desk.
