Yes, I do. I believe the media tries to sway opinion all the time. I won't even get started on the 'news' broadcasts.. more like ads, entertainment tidbits, sports, with a bit of weather and news tossed in.

The media convinced the US to elect a president with almost no credentials, so I guess so.

The media only shows the half truth of whats going on in other parts of the world, because they know if they show the whole truth Americans will not stand for it.

The media always has, and always will be, trying to "brainwash" us, if by brainwash you mean influence our opinions to get us to do things. (Usually, to buy things) Fortunately, such things as subliminal messages don't work, and you can actively resist having your opinion changed in directions you don't want it to by educating yourself.

I think now, just as in any time period, you have to use critial thinking skills to determine waht is accurate and what is not.

No, the media does not brainwash us. Media loves and cares for us. Without media our lives would only be long slow boring empty wastes of time. Media tells us the right choices to make, so that our lives are easy and happy. O.O

The media is not, nor is it becoming, particularly "dangerous." What is dangerous and unsettling is the increasing inability, reluctance and refusal of people in our society to take responsibility for developing and cultivating critical research, thinking and analytical skills. We sit in front of our favorite talking heads (usually the ones who reinforce what we already believe and "know") and wait for them to spoon feed us the meme of the day. As long as they reinforce our view of what "is" we sit like grinning idiots and eat it up. This goes for negative as well as positive "news." We're so stuck on stupid that we filter out anything that doesn't fit into our little boxes, and we call the rest "truth." We're too damned lazy to shop for information to form our own opinions. It might cut into the time we spend shopping on the Internet or at the mall. And then we turn around and refuse to take responsibility for ourselves by claiming that the liberal media or the conservative media or the religious media or the godless media are at fault for brainwashing us.
