Why are tax rates on motels/hotels so high. Here in AR it is 16% tax rate. Why do they have to charge that much.. That's 2x normal tax rate here. Anybody know?

Many cities and counties raise money to pay for things like sports stadiums by levying an extra tax on Motel-using "outsiders" who enjoy the new facilities. Or not. Cities like Chicago also nick people by adding a percent or so Municipal Sales Tax, in addition to what the State collects. No it ain't fair!
