A question for native Chinese Mandarin speakers, please. When you read (in hanzi character) a phrase like ren(2) qu(4) liu(2) ying(3) what do you interpret this as?(sorry I cannot type character) The reason I am asking--see answers..not enough room here:)

The reason I am asking this is because there are no plurals in Chinese....and Tense doesn't exist as it does in English (without a modifier as 'le' for a completed action)....Do you immediately see ;MAN PASSES ONLY HIS SHADOW REMAINS" OR "MANKIND PASSED AND ONLY HIS SHADOW REMAINS" or "A MAN DID PASS NOW ONLY HIS SHADOW REMAINS" or how does it immediately appear to you. I hope you can understand my question...:) duo xie.

Sorry, I am a Chinese but not a native Chinese Mandarin speaker. I am English educated. The Chinese characters for ren2 qu4 liu2 ying3 are 人走留影 and I will attempt to provide a suggestion. This means when a man has gone he leaves behind some souvenir photos for his relatives and friends to remember him by.
