Yes. The only thing that will stop this is if every at-risk ship carries a security contingent and a selection of sonic weapons, RPG's. and Hellfire or Exocet missiles.

Along with many other acts of crime, the economy will encourage further acts of piracy, burglary, and armed robbery. Desperate financial times will make people more desperate to do stupidly desperate things.

Yeah i do, and it really worries me now that my son is in the Merchant Navy, he is going to sea for the first time in March and chances are he will be on one of these routes which the pirates haunt.. i hope not - fingers crossed! But i also agree with what Adoomski said, not paying the ransom could be worse.
