I believe staying on the serious side of life too much can make on miserable. I try to keep it light.

It depends on if the person is enjoying the topic which they are taking seriously or not. If they fixate on it or are passionate about it they may take it seriously. If they feel they have to but dont want to take it will not make them more happy. Sometimes if they are taking something seriously in order to handle and obstacle and feel someone should take it seriously they might enjoy it. Of course we can take something too seriously and let it comsume too much of our time and thoughts.

Well based on my experience on Answerbag, and elsewhere, taking things too seriously made me miserable. On AB, I got attacked for earning too many moderation points, I was accused of doing so many nasty things, etc. etc. My initial reaction was to take them seriously as if my life depended on it. It only made me an unhappy Internet user. Things have changed though, fortunately. Now, my mindset is: so I earned too many points, so what? This is just the Internet. So I was accused of doing so many nasty things, so what? Who are those people accusing me of doing such things anyway? I'm happier now :)
-
Neither. Some people have that mindset. They take things seriously. They are just comfortable that way. Niether happier nor more miserable.

Oh Rose, no one should take themselves seriously. When you learned to laugh at yourself and not take other people's negative comments seriously, you can then become a very happy person. Hey, I'm nice to all human beings, and if they don't like me, fuck them and the white horse they rode in on!

On a job/contract negotiations I had times of both, you can be too serious and you can be too lenient and lax as to dealing with situations. Seriousness has it's plusses,I have gained great sums from being more serious(professional) and also during the less serious times too(when the customer becomes more than a paycheck, but a friend or someone who I can have easy going conversations with.) A balance is required to be a more complete human being.Knowing that balance is the trick.

I think life is about balance, once your life is running smoothly you can relax ;0)Taking things too seriously is no good, life is a challenge, you have to take what enjoyment you can get.

I am a very serious person..I am also a very happy person..I am silly, whimsical and imaginative. I don't think taking things seriously has anything to do with misery or happiness. I think it is part of your character. Some people are flighty, some are serious. We have many facets to us. Miserable is a self-induced state..it is how you react to your situation. Some people's lives are filled with much hardship and tragedy and they are joyful. Some people have everything one could ever want in life and they are miserable. It's all in one's attitude, character and whether or not you are grateful for what you have.! :)

Oh my friend I think those who take things too seriously are already miserable and misery loves company. They want to seem like a leader of others who complain by kicking those who feel free to express themselves in a carefree way. Sadly we know it is only an attempt to gain attention.
